Is $1,500 enough to get you started in investing in tax lien certificates?

This area of real estate has always peaked my interest, I just never acted upon it. Therefore, I am looking to get things started ASAP. I was looking to teach myself as much as I can in regards of tax lien certificates. What kind of beginners information I need to know before going on this adventure? What are some of the initial do's and don't that I should know before even going on with the process? Can someone aim me in the direction I need to be. Any and all advise is very much appreciated. Tax Lien Investing?

I am 25yrs old and have been researching the opportunity to invest in real estate. I work in the mortgage biz, so I have a decent backround in real estate. I was building homes in Florida but the market is to soft to build and sell quickly and turn a profit, there is to much uncertainty involved in this market. I currently live in New Jersey and have been very interested in buying tax lien certificates. I would like to be able to speak with someone who is better versed in this area. I'm kinda looking for a mentor type. I have been doing quite a bit of research and found this process varies state to state. NJ, NY, PA and FL are my areas of interest to start. Please respond if you would be willing to help me better understand this opportunity. I would like to speak to someone with hands on experience. THANK YOU

If a tax lien company has a tax certificate on some property how do we buy it?

I asked this in real estate also…but we are interested in buying some property in Oklahoma, but couldn't locate the owner…after some digging we found that they owe 4 years of back taxes on the place. If we want to purchase it do we have to buy the certificate from the tax lien company or speak with the owner? Any help would be great!! Thanks!
The thing that is making this so difficult is that I cannot track down the owner, all the numbers I have found so far are disconnected…I'm really not sure what else to do.
